My boxer puppy sleeps a lot. The way your dog sleeps and their sleeping habits can say a lot about what they're feeling. Sleeping habits can give clues about a dog's health and happiness that you can interpret if you know. Puppies are born with their eyes and ears firmly closed and without any teeth. Although you won't see much external activity in a puppy during this period (all they want to do is eat and sleep), there's a LOT going on inside.. In fact this is a very critical stage of puppy development and all that sleeping is actually playing an important role as puppies do most of their growing during that time. Puppies are a lot like human babies. They need a lot of sleep for their brains to develop (about 18-20 hours a day!). As with babies, puppies will often wake up pretty early. For your puppy, “sleeping through the night” might mean waking up at 5:30 or 6:00, when going to bed at midnight. Related articles: How do I get my puppy to sleep longer? A dog will normally sleep 12-18 hours a day. Depending on whether or not they have something better to do, age and breed. If their activity level is high, they sleep less because they have a job to do or the energy to spare.
Puppies sleeping a lot isn't cause for concern. Puppy sleep hours can range from 18 to 20 a day, versus the 14 hours of daily sleep by an adult dog. This is because puppies are growing and they need their rest. Puppies Use a Lot of Energy. Puppies need more sleep than adult dogs because they have a lot going on in their lives. My girl is 5 and she twitches, growls, whines etc in her sleep. I like to think she is dreaming of finally being of her leash (city dog) and chasing birds and squirrels. IMO, it is normal. She also sleeps like 22 hours a day. Gor for a walk, then need a 5 hour nap. Ahh, the life of a dog. Dogs sleep a lot more than most people do. Before you spend time and money trying to figure out why your dog is sleeping too much, first make sure that he actually is. If he is, the reason may be a life change, health issue, or diet. Hi I hope I am posting this in the right section!!! I have had my boxer puppy for about 4 months now and he is 6 months old. When we first got him he I felt like he was so full of energy, running around, wrestling with my fiance and interacting with other people/dogs; however, recently I have noticed that he is lazy and sleeping all day long. I usually notice puppy bliss during the 4-6 month period as my puppy is still relatively small (compared to his full size) and cute, he behaves well, listens, and understands most of the basics. However, for some reason around 6 months puppies seem to hit a regression (at least mine do). You might also add a little bit of plain cottage cheese or plain yogurt (just make sure the yogurt doesn’t contain xylitol, an increasingly common sugar substitute that is safe for people but extremely dangerous for dogs).; Put their food in an interactive toy (a.k.a. “puzzle feeder”) to make meal times more stimulating and fun.; Clear signs that it’s time to take your puppy to the vet
