I have a 11 week old yorkie puppy. He is very healthy and of a normal weight. However, he doesn't choose to eat. I have tried canned food, dry food, cat food, even baby food. He simply won't eat it. I have been basically forcing the food down. I simply wipe a small bit of canned food onto the roof of his mouth so that he has to eat it.

My yorkie puppy wont eat dog food. “If you’re having trouble getting your pet to eat on a regular basis, and he won’t consume his food at least once a day, your dog is a picky eater," says Margaret Hoppe, DVM, of the Abingdon Square Veterinary Clinic in New York's Greenwich Village. If your dog has always been a picky eater, there is likely no need for concern. "'My dog won't eat and I don't know what to do,' is a really common complaint," says Sean Casey, the owner of both Sean Casey Animal Rescue, a New York City nonprofit small animal shelter, and The Hamilton Dog House, a Brooklyn-based pet store. You're not alone in wondering what, if anything, you should do different at chow time. Give your puppy meat-based baby food, which is palatable to most puppies and easier to eat with a sore mount. Add warm water or no-salt chicken broth to dry foods to make a slurry in the blender. Warm up your puppy's food by zapping it in the microwave for 10 seconds or so, which can unlock the food's aroma and pique your pup’s appetite. this is maybe great if your dog isn’t a pedigree or if it doesn’t suffer from skin issues. my dog refuses to eat her dry food, of course, we’ve been feeding her scrapes from what we eat for the past 2 years. except this has triggered out of control eczema.. Cow suffers from itchy skin too, so I feel you – fresh food won’t cause.

How Much: A Yorkie puppy should only be fed about ¼ to ½ cup of food a day. How Often: Feed your Yorkie puppy 3 to 4 meals a day. Food Types: Small breed dogs are prone to dental issues, so feeding your Yorkie puppy dry food is a must. They tend to have a lot of energy and need a good balance of nutrition to fuel their energy. The first thing to keep in mind is how you’re judging your dog’s appetite. If you’re concerned because your dog isn’t eating as much as the guidelines state on the food you purchase, remember that these are only averages. Many perfectly healthy dogs eat only 60% to 70% of the amount stated on the packaging.. Because loss of appetite in dogs can indicate illness, it is important to seek. My dog won’t eat dog food but will eat treats. Another common problem is the dog that will eat treats, or human food, but simply won’t eat dog food at all. The causes are the same as for the dog that won’t eat kibble unless it is smothered in yogurt or cheese sauce. Your dog has learned to play you. If you are feeding your Yorkie a kibble dog food, make sure you choose a food with small, bite-size pieces of kibble. This makes it easier for your Toy dog to eat and digest the food. Choose a calorie-dense food. Toy and small breed dogs often need dog food that is more calorie-dense than food for larger dogs.

My Yorkie won't eat dog food. My 2 yr old Yorkie is the pickiest eater, he will eat Puperonis. I have tried just about every dog food on the market, dry & wet, on occasion he will eat a helping like Ceasers or nibble on a dry food. But then he will just ignore it to the point of throwing up from not eating. Feeling sorry for him I will resort. For owners, a dog that isn't eating is a common concern. There are a variety of reasons why dogs won't eat, but some reasons are more serious than others. Of course, Yorkshire Terriers are known to be picky about what they eat. Don’t give in by giving your pup table scraps, too many treats, or too much wet dog food. You can help make dry dog food more appealing if necessary. Tips to make dry kibble more appealing: Add a nutritional supplement like Tomlyn to the kibble They won’t be able to handle two meals per day like most dogs (even my little 14lb mutt gets two meals a day). If they overeat, they can get sick, so it’s something to avoid if you don’t like cleaning up messes. Instead, split your dog’s daily food ration into four smaller meals. This is a good rule of thumb for lots of toy breeds.

Still, you should retrain your dog to eat certain foods much like you would a small child. You can't allow it to eat only what it wants, because this won't be doing any favors to the dog or its digestive system. Put the amount of food that your dog should eat - it will be listed on the product packaging - into its bowl. Yorkie Refusing To Eat: The Problem Many owners often perceive Yorkshire Terriers as finicky eaters. They too have a choice and often develop dislike for some food. However, if your dog is consistently refusing food, the problem is a cause for concern. An owner should be worried over his Yorkie refusing to eat when the dog, Does not eat at all * A dog's diet should never exceed 10% of the total amount as table scraps or human food. In addition, never give a dog HUMAN vitamins or supplements as they can cause health concerns. * Cooked bones of any kind can easily splinter in the dog 's mouth and cause damage to the gums, throat, and lining of the stomach and digestive system. You also need to consider that your Yorkie won’t be able to eat large quantities at one time, so his food needs to be very nutrient-dense. Smaller kibbles are good for Yorkies, and dry food is generally best to help keep your dog’s teeth clean since the breed is prone to dental problems.
