While panting immediately after birth is a completely normal occurrence, prolonged panting is not. If this issue continues the following day after delivering puppies, your dog may be experiencing problems such as: an incomplete birth, milk fever, a high temperature, heart problems, pain of some sort, or hypothyroidism (rare).

My pomeranian puppy keeps panting. The dog shows obvious discomfort by shaking its head or by holding the head to one side and rubbing the ear along the ground. The dog continually scratches the inflamed ear, thereby increasing the inflammation. The ear feels hot, the lining is reddened and the dog may show some signs of deafness. Ear infection caused by ear mites Puppies may develop an irritating form of ear infection caused. I have a pomeranian who pants all the time; summer and winter, 7/24 except when he's sleeping. He's getting to be about 14 or so. Right now he has a croupy cough and he sometimes coughs and gags like he's trying to get rid of something in his throat. Panting at night is generally normal for a puppy, but consistent heavy panting may indicate a health problem or even something psychological. Because panting is a normal behavior during any time of day or night, though, don't leap to conclusions just because you hear him breathing loudly in the next room. If rapid breathing turns into panting, your puppy might be a bit on the warm side. Although a temperature of 70 degrees might feel just right to you, some puppies feel that's a little too hot and start panting even while they're sitting around. If he's lethargic, won't eat, vomiting or showing other adverse symptoms, make a vet appointment.

If your puppy overheats and doesn't stop panting, even after a drink of water and a rest, she may be suffering from heatstroke. Other health-related reasons your puppy could be panting include poisoning, heart problems, breathing disorders -- like pneumonia or tumors in the lungs -- or if she has been injured and is in pain. I get so many questions on my Facebook Fan Page and right here on my blog about when you as a Pommy Mommy should take your Pomeranian to the Vet. So I have compiled a Top 10 list of the most common Pomeranian Emergencies that should be burned into your brain so you know to just take your Pomeranian to the Vet. 1. Trauma to your Pomeranian Is coconut oil good for their cough? My little Abbi, coughs extremely bad in the a.m.she isn’t eating as well as she did,I feel that it hurts her throat when coughing,I do know it hurts me to hear her cough, they gave me some medication for her cough,VET,states it is her trechea causing the cough,I don’t want to loose my little girl, she is my partner in my life,we’ve been together since. Excessive panting, especially when accompanied by trembling, can be a signal that your dog is in pain. While panting is fairly normal for dogs, you should take notice if they pant at odd times or.

My Pomeranian gags and coughs like she is coughing up a fur ball - she alway ends the cough with an exagerrated hack. She does this periodically during the day - but especially when she gets excited or lays in certain positions. She is 11 years old and this started about a year ago. Ruling out the above, if a Pomeranian is panting hard and it happens quite often, a veterinarian checkup is in order. There are serious medical conditions in which panting is a symptom. This includes: Fluid in the lungs, an enlarged heart, Cushing’s Disease, collapsed trachea, and infections such as pneumonia or kennel cough. Another feature of this condition is a very loud, harsh panting. Laryngeal paralysis often starts out subtly and worsens with time. When Should I Be Concerned About a Dog Gagging? Just like us, every dog sometimes swallows wrong and has a bout of dog coughing and gagging, so this isn’t a problem to immediately be concerned about.. I have a 3 week old male terrier/poodle pup. I noticed he is breathing heavily, Panting fast, and his heart rate is about 46/to 18 seconds. I called a vet they said his temp. was normal. But they suggested taking him in. I can't afford it at the moment. Also he gets really tired and goes back ot normal. but cant seem to sleep like usual.. Please help with any info. I will greatly appreciate it..

Panting is totally normal! It helps dogs cool off and is also a natural response when a dog is thirsty, excited, happy or scared. Panting isn't normally a reason for concern, but if your dog is panting excessively, it could be a possible sign of heat exhaustion or overexercise. “A puppy’s growth phase is not always linear,” she says. “So you can’t always go with the directions on the food package because each puppy is different.” How to help: If you suspect your puppy isn’t getting enough to eat, consult with your vet about adjusting his diet, says Lincoln. Coates agrees and adds, “rather than focusing. Reason 4 - Collapsed Trachea – If you are a Member of this site or have the PetPom Pomeranian book, you’ll know that we talk about this a lot. While dogs can be predisposed to this condition, with toy breed dogs, it can be aggravated by using a collar and not a harness. As pressure is put on the neck, the trachea rings can actually collapse inward, causing breathing problems and associated. Some puppies get parvovirus, which results in your dog vomiting white foam slime. Your puppy may also have a fever, be lethargic, and have bloody diarrhea. If your dog has kidney disease, he might cough up white foam and have trouble urinating, be lethargic, and experience disorientation. If you notice any parovirus or kidney disease symptoms, go to the vet or pet ER as soon as possible.
