We bought our labrador about a year and a half ago in Iowa. He was three monthes old. Since we brought him back home to Texas, his eyes have been red and kinda saggy. In the morning they aren't as red but they get worse in the day. He is a black lab and we bought him during christmastime when there was snow on the ground. Once you are nearing the end of the puppy chow and you have purchased the adult dog food, start to mix in the adult food with the puppy food. For example: if you give your puppy 4 scoops of puppy chow start with 1 scoop adult 3 scoops puppy chow. Slowly increase the adult food to integrate him to the new food. My 18 month old black lab suffered an allergy attack last summer that made one of his eyes swell shut. This lasted just a few hours. This morning I noticed my black Lab, Shadow, had a whole bunch of fresh green gunky stuff under the outside of his eyes surrounded by dried-up gunky stuff. I cleaned it off, and 2 hours later it all came back. He isnt acting strange or anything, and his eyes arent red, nor is he blinking a lot. Causes of Red and Irritated Eyes. When a dog or cat goes to the vet with red and irritated eyes, here are a few of the typical causes: Trauma: Nothing creates redness and irritation as quickly as a poke to the eye by a branch or some other foreign object. Even if the eye itself is unharmed, the surrounding tissues can become inflamed. Inflammation of the Eye in Dogs. Red eye causes the dog's eye to become inflammed and, well, red. This inflammation may be due to various factors, including excess blood in the eyelids (hyperemia) or in the eye's blood vessels (ocular vasculature). This occurs when vessels expand in response to extraocular or intraocular (outside of, and within the eye, respectively) inflammation, or a passive. Many conditions can turn a dog's eyes red. While sometimes it's caused by minor irritation, red eyes can be a sign of a serious eye condition. These include canine glaucoma, uveitis, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, and Horner's syndrome. A trip to the vet is important to diagnose and treat your dog.

Our Dudley Lily had green eyes as a little pup and now has hazel eyes. Most of her offspring have pink noses; some light paw pads, but all have their yellow lab daddy Otto”s dark rimmed dark eyes. Lily is a total clown and never misses out on fun with the young ones. We discovered she was a Dudley when we Googled her green eyes as a puppy. Now, at a little over a year old, she has developed the same yellowish colored discharge and her sister, Cheyenne, has decided that Dakota shouldn’t be the only one to have it. That initiated my search on the Internet to get more information about eye discharge in Labrador Retrievers and I was able to find the following informative article: We recently brought home a 9 week old lab puppy, with our 2 year old lab. They seem to be getting along, “playing” as it appears to us, however, the puppy bites the other dogs neck, face, ankles, legs so fiercely she has scars in those areas. The older dog seems “too nice” when this is going on.
